Last year When I went to Alexander
McQueen's show at Met Museum, My eyes are really catched by this Jacket,
"It's a Jungle Out There" from his 1997 collection. I was wondering
what painting he used make this Jacket so attractive.Later I found out McQueen
used the painting from 1430's "The Thief to the Left of Christ" by
Robert Campin. it was surprised that he took the portion of painting , stress
out the christ body especially the christ 's face expression, merge with entire
jacket design (include all the arrangement with cutting, color ). Also in
McQueen's another master piece, he used the painting" The Temptation of St
Anthony and The Garden of Earthly Delights". If we look carefully,you can
spot some quite unique characters in the mix like the devil in the night chair
devouring humans and the fish with the mast. Same techniques he applied in that
pervious Jacket;took portion of image, merge with entire oriental pattern
jacket.we are here almost forget about the original painting, we couldn't
imagine how it is matches that early century paintings in modern fashion,which
gives them new meaning.After all, the Jackets with those paintings are really
have strong visual impact. Alexdander McQueen do give human history a lesson
that art can perfectly match fashion, and also a inspiration for modern artist;
we should be more creative with early century art and modern art.
